WIRELESS
Updated: November 5, 2007
"Consumer grade" wireless equipment is adequate for use in a library environment for either public or staff access. If this equipment is used as a public WIFI 'hotspot' in a library, it is recommended that a VLAN be set up in the switch that the wireless router is connected to. For Staff-only usage, you should enable WPA security on the wireless router and the staff client computers. WEP security shouldn't be used because it is too easy to compromise. There is also nothing to be gained by using the newer "N" specification equipment, since most notebooks don't support it.
